Toubkal Summit

MOUNT TOUBKAL 4167m

Explore the Ultimate Mount Toubkal Expedition – Guided High Atlas Adventure

Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and the tallest summit in North Africa, rising majestically within Toubkal National Park in southwestern Morocco.

This immersive 6-day guided expedition blends high-altitude trekking, cultural discovery and unforgettable panoramic mountain scenery — perfect for hikers and adventurers with a solid background in mountain walking and scrambling.

The peaks we will try and climb are Toubkal 4167m, Toubkal West 4030m, Ras 4083m and Timezguida 4089m taking the total of peaks to four. The national park is stunning and the expedition can be run in summer or winter conditions depending on what you would prefer.

We’ll also get a lively night out in Marrakesh at the end of the trip.

MOUNT TOUBKAL EXPEDITION VIDEO

“The Toubkal trip with Dave (and a lovely bunch of people) was fabulous and we enjoyed everything about it! Dave’s an inspiring mountain leader with boundless energy and (seemingly) limitless good humour, great skills and a plan for everything. Everyone had great fun and it was a totally relaxed and the perfect introduction to high altitude mountaineering (in sunny, spectacular Morocco)”

Why Mount Toubkal Should Be on Your Adventure Bucket List

At 4,167 m, Mount Toubkal offers:

  • Spectacular Summit Views — On clear days you can see across the High Atlas, plains and distant horizons.

  • Cultural Immersion — Traverse traditional Berber villages, watch daily mountain life and experience warm local hospitality.

  • Wild Landscapes — From terraced orchards to rugged alpine ridges, the terrain is varied and dramatic.

Whether you plan your trip for classic summer trekking or a more challenging winter ascent, the Toubkal region promises a truly authentic mountain adventure.

Skill Level & Preparation

This trek is ideal for people who:

  • Have experience with long days on rugged terrain

  • Are comfortable with moderate scrambling and altitude

  • Want a safe, structured introduction to high-elevation climbing
Even though Mount Toubkal is non-technical during the main season, altitude and varied terrain make preparation essential.

TOUBKAL EXPEDITION

This is a great expedition to ‘find your feet’ at altitude and experience higher mountains over a shorter period of time then places like the Himalayas.

Being just over 4000 metres in height, the peaks here are a perfect introduction to higher mountain summits. The summits themselves aren’t technical but involve some moderate scrambling – similar to that of Crib Goch in Snowdonia or Striding Edge in the Lake District.

If you’re on a winter expedition, then crampons and ice axes will be carried and full training will be given on their use. You can use this expedition as an introduction to winter mountaineering. If you haven’t got crampons and an ice axe of your own, these can be hired at a small additional cost.

Porters will carry your heavy bags to the hut from Imlil – making your ascent that much easier and more enjoyable. This is included in the cost of the expedition.

TOUBKAL EXPEDITION ITINERARY

Day 1: Meet at Marrakesh airport for 2pm and then take a transfer to Imlil. Around 1.5 hours driving through stunning scenery takes us to the small mountain village of Imlil. From Imlil, we walk to Armed and check into our hotel and sort kit for the following few days on the mountain. That evening we have a group meal all together.

Day 2: An early start sees us packing our bags onto donkeys and porters, then taking the spectacular trekking path through the foothills of the mountains and up to the hut at 3200 metres. There are plenty of stops on this day at the snack huts on the way up and there are plenty of great photo opportunities.

Day 3: Summit day. Weather depending we will head for the summit of Toubkal 4167m. If time and fitness allows, there is the chance of bagging another peak, Toubkal West 4030m.

Day 4: Another day of summitting. Depending on what we have done on the previous day, we will go for the 4000 metre peaks of Ras 4083m and Timezguida 4089m, taking our 4000 metre peak total to four!

Day 5: We head back down the valley to the town of Imlil where we get our transfer to Marrakesh. The huge market town of Marrakesh is a site to behold and we can enjoy a fun and lively night out.

Day 6: We head back to the airport and head off home, or you can arrange to stay longer in Marrakesh if you like.

Please note: Every effort will be made to adhere to the above itinerary, but as this is adventure travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee everything. Weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle breakdowns and the health of trekkers can all affect the plan. Your guide and our local team will do their best to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, and cheerfulness in the face of adversity is an asset in the mountains.

Extra days can be added at the start or the end of the trip, should you wish to spend more time in Marrakesh or journeying around Morocco.
