On the weekend we finished our rope rescue course day 2. The weekend went really well with all 8 participants learning so many skills that they will find helpful in the future. A lot of the climbers on the course had been rock climbing for over 20 years and have never had any rescue training before. A rope rescue course is the best way to get clued up on all the essentail skills needed to be able to operate safely in a sea cliff environment and on multi-pitch routes. Its not about sorting out a problem, its about setting yourself up so you don’t have a problem in the first place. It always amazes me how many climbers not know how to climb a rope or lock off the belay plate etc. On a rope rescue course you will learn all of that and more and put it all to practice under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. Skills like prussiking a rope and setting a hauling system allows you to go into more adventurous places know that you can get yourself out, without calling the emergency services.
The course was endorsed by the BMC and i was working with Henry Castle.
